Each month, our committee hosts an event that promotes community and family involvement, student engagement and participation in reading and the arts. -Billy Pell, Westfield Elementary School

Weather Buddies - Students in second and fifth grades will use buddy reading of a class set of weather books to learn about all aspects of weather. Students will become weather watchers using a weather station, and conduct weather STEM activities in groups for hands-on learning and experiences. -Karen Huffman and Paula Sigmon, Pilot Mountain Elementary School

The Ukulele Project, Completed and Sustained - This project is intended to open a whole new world of artistic expression for the students. The ukulele offers endless possibilities for musical performance, accompaniment, and composition. -Susan Marshall, Mountain Park Elementary School

Students As Engineers In The High School Science Classroom - High school physical science students will be engaged in hands-in, inquiry-based science education by working in collaborative teams to engage in the engineer design process by creating t-shirt launchers. Teams will develop a scientific poster about their project and present their findings. -Jessica Brown, East Surry High School

Engraved And Beyond - Students will have the opportunity to learn critical thinking, problem-solving skills, learn a business trade and showcase their work. The implementation plan involves the students setting up a small business and running it from start to finish. -Susan Cromer, East Surry High School

Tiger Leader Of The Month Book Club - Each month a leadership attribute will be highlighted at Dobson Elementary, including respect, acceptance, integrity, active listener, and communication. The attribute will be a focal point of discussion with students on leading self and others. Nineteen classrooms will receive a copy of the book, and Administration will lead discussions on the leadership attribute during the read aloud time. -Nicole Hazelwood, Dobson Elementary School

STEM The Way For Robotics - A new robotics after school program for grades two and three will allow students to learn the basics of building and coding. It will also allow the students to be better prepared for competitive robotics when they reach fourth and fifth grades. -Ashley Snow, White Plains Elementary School

Building Bright Minds: Vocabulary Blocks For Engaging Learning! - The school this project serves has a notable number of students who are multilingual learners. Access to literacy strategies and content area vocabulary resources and tools will give all students, including those who are multilingual learners, opportunities to engage in learning that can deepen their understanding of standards in science, math, reading, and more, and in turn have the vocabulary to talk about their learning. -Siomara Baltazar, Dobson Elementary School

Creative Movement With Stretchy Bands: Let's Get Moving! - Students will learn basic music theory, rhythm, beat, folk dances, rote memory, song lyrics, and other musical elements while utilizing games, dance, and movements with stretchy bands. This will help all students be engaged while learning in a fun, creative way! -Lydia Love, Westfield Elementary School

From Seedlings To Scientists: Kindergarten STEM Initiative - This project aims to cultivate a love for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in young learners. Our Kindergarten students are at a crucial age for developing foundational skills and attitudes towards STEM subjects. Through hands-on activities, experiments, and interactive lessons, we will spark their curiosity and lay the groundwork for future STEM learning. -Reba Simmons, Cedar Ridge Elementary School

Growing In Literacy Through STEM - Every item in this project relates directly to the standards we learn about in Kindergarten Science. Students will get to work with the technology part of STEM with the microscope, and will have to use math to calculate what to do each day for the Caterpillar to Butterfly project and the plant life cycle. -Hannah Bowman, White Plains Elementary School

reCenter: A Place To Reset, Recenter, And Reconnect - reCenter will be a designated space intentionally structured to help students take a break, defuse anger, and re-center outside of the classroom.
