Good morning. This is Kelly Waters, Principal of Rockford Elementary School. I am calling to let you know that our school participated in a Practice Lockdown Drill this morning in cooperation with the Surry County Sheriff's Office. We are very proud of our students and staff because they responded quickly and did a great job with the practice procedures. Student safety is the highest priority for Surry County Schools and the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, and we are all working diligently everyday to insure the safety of children. We appreciate everyone’s efforts to work with us in that process. We encourage you to talk to your child tonight about our practice drill. Please call us if you have any questions or concerns. I hope you have a great day.

This week is the annual deaf awareness week. Deaf Awareness Week is an annual event that aims to raise awareness about the Deaf community, the language, culture, and history. It is a time to celebrate Deaf identity, promote Deaf culture, and advocate for equal access to communication and services for the Deaf and hard of hearing. We are so thankful for our persistent and hard-working interpreters who work day in and day out to ensure that our students with hearing differences receive an outstanding education!
