
Fourth and fifth graders earned a spot in the school Spelling Bee by winning their classroom Spelling Bees. They spelled a total of 109 words in the school Bee, and we couldn’t be prouder! Mason Frederick will advance to the county Spelling Bee in February to proudly represent Mountain Park.



Our staff enjoyed a wonderful paint party today! Thank you Mrs. Wilkins for leading such a fun faculty meeting!

Good Afternoon Mountaineers! This is your principal Matt Scott with a quick update.
Our Robotics Team traveled to Charlotte last weekend for a Semi-Final competition. They did so well that they won an invitation to the State Championship. Since their season is continuing, so will practices. The Robotics Team will practice Thursday after school until 4:30. They will also practice next Tuesday after school until 4:30, but will not practice next Thursday, Dec. 21 as that is an early release day.
Friday we will have a Paint & Pancakes Night. Plan to join us at 5:00 for a pancake supper and then at 6:00 for a Paint Night. We will have student-made ornaments available at this event that you are going to want to purchase as well. This evening will support our Student Council and Art program.

We are very proud to have two of our Mountaineers cast in The Christmas Carol. Atticus and Prim were absolutely wonderful! Way to go Mountaineers.








The 4th Grade Mountaineers had a GREAT day watching “A Christmas Carol” at The Andy Griffith Playhouse today. They were respectful and responsible leaders.

Good Evening Mountaineers! This is your principal Matt Scott with this week’s updates.
On Monday, our 4th graders will visit the Andy Griffith Playhouse. We will have our Spelling Bee on Thursday at 1:00. On Friday, the Surry Central Chorus will come and carol through our halls, and our 5th-grade girls group will have lunch with other 5th-grade girls from around the county.
Friday we will have a Paint & Pancakes Night. Plan to join us at 5:00 for a pancake supper and then at 6:00 for a Paint Night. We will have student-made ornaments available at this event that you are going to want to purchase as well. This evening will support our Student Council and Art program.
The Rada orders have been delivered. They are in the front office. All orders must be picked up as we will not send any orders home with students.
As a reminder, in order for a student’s absence to be excused, a note must be sent no later than two days after the student’s return to school.
Looking ahead, our last day of school before Christmas break will be Dec. 21. That day is an early release day at 1:00. Also, there will be no after-school child care on that day.

On Saturday, our Mountaineer Engineers along with other top teams from the region, competed in the First Lego League Regional Semi-Finals in Charlotte, NC. Competition was tough but our Mountaineers were successful and they finished 16th in the robot runs. This score along with robot design, innovation project, and core values scores qualified them for the State Semi-Finals that will be held at NC A&T in Greensboro on January 13, 2024! We are so proud of our Mountaineers! Good Luck in the State Semi-Finals!











Mountain Park couldn't be more proud of our fifth graders! They are incredible leaders for our building and community! Yesterday they went on a field trip to see A Christmas Carol, and enjoyed lunch at Chick-fil-A. They received several compliments about their leadership and behavior while they were out and about! They were also excited to see two of our Mountaineers in the show. We are extremely proud of our Mountaineers!










Wishing our Robotics team best of luck today, as they compete in Charlotte for the regional competition!


Kindergarten loved learning about 3D shapes and eating their creations!











Kindergarten is learning about different shapes this week. The kids took the cone shape and turned it into an edible Christmas tree!











5th graders participated in a Socratic Seminar today discussing their current novel. Students led discussions about their book and the characters point of view. Our 5th grade readers are leaders!

Start dates include August 8, 2024, August 12, 2024, and August 26, 2024. At this time, only one of these calendars meets the requirements put forth by the NC General Assembly, which means August 8 and August 12 may not be an option under current guidelines. On Monday, our 3rd grade will visit the Andy Griffith Playhouse to see the Nutcracker.
As our Robotics team gears up to represent us in the state semi-finals, they will practice this week on Tuesday and Thursday. We want to wish them the best of luck on Saturday as they will travel to Charlotte to compete.
On Friday, our 5th graders will visit the Andy Griffith Playhouse to see A Christmas Carol.
We want to say a special congratulations to Oliver Marshall and Atticus Hawks as they were 2 of the 7 participants from the Surry County School’s Science Fair chosen to move on to the regional Science Fair.

Tonight was the Surry County Science Fair and our Mountaineers did amazing! Atticus Hawks and Oliver Marshall represented Mountain Park at the science fair and both students advanced to regionals! We are proud of you both. Great job, Mountaineers!
