Due to widespread black ice throughout the county, Surry County Schools will transition to a Remote Learning Day today, Friday, January 19, for students and staff. This means all schools and facilities will be closed for students. Elementary students should complete work in their remote learning packets, and middle and high school students should access their assignments on Canvas.
Please see https://www.surry.k12.nc.us/page/remote-learning for additional information on Remote Learning Days.
Surry County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. This delay will help with visibility for bus drivers and allow time for temperatures to increase.
All evening events and activities are canceled for today, Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
Surry County Schools will be closed with an optional teacher workday tomorrow, Tuesday, January 16, 2024. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory that will be in effect until 7:00 AM Tuesday morning. Good Afternoon, Cardinals!
This is Shannon DuPlessis, Principal of East Surry High School, with a reminder regarding the SCS Clear Bag Policy.
As a reminder, Surry County Schools will implement new clear bag procedures for all spectators at athletic events for middle and high schools effective January 1st, 2024. The policy is currently in effect and will be implemented tonight during our home basketball game against Mount Airy High School. Again, this pertains to athletic events only. Athletes and coaches participating in sporting events are exempt from these procedures. These procedures are designed to ensure everyone's safety and streamline the entry process, making it consistent with the practices you might have encountered at college stadiums and other large event venues. I'd like to take a moment to explain what this means for you and your family.
First, all bags brought to our athletic events must be clear and not exceed 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches in size. This includes purses, backpacks, and any other bags you plan to bring with you. One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags and small clutch bags or purses no larger than 4.5” x 6.5” are also allowed. All bags are subject to search. Please note that certain items, including but not limited to, purses larger than a clutch bag, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch or drawstring bags, or computer/camera bags, and non-clear totes, will not be allowed inside the venue. Signage will be placed in locations to help remind our visitors of the policy. Please call the school with any questions. Thank you for your assistance with this process as we work to enhance the safety measures that we currently have in place to ensure that we are proactive about the safety of our students, staff, and community.
