Good morning. This is Shannon DuPlessis, Principal at East Surry High School. I believe it is important to keep the lines of communication open with parents and to make you aware when a situation arises at our school.
Today, East Surry High School went into lockdown at approximately 7:35 a.m. due to a staff member accidentally triggering the panic button mobile app. The School Resource Officer and administration responded quickly, and at no time was there a danger to anyone on our campus.
Our lockdown plan worked exactly as it is supposed to and all students and staff are safe. The building was swept out of an abundance of caution. Safety is the number one priority of Surry County Schools and the Surry County Sheriff’s Office.
At this time, the school has resumed a normal schedule. Student tardies will be excused. School will be dismissed at normal time.

I wanted to let you know that our school participated in a Practice Lockdown Drill this morning in cooperation with the Surry County Sheriff's Office and Pilot Mountain Police Department. Student safety is the highest priority for Surry County Schools, the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, and the Pilot Mountain Police Department, and we are all working diligently everyday to insure the safety of children. We appreciate everyone’s efforts to work with us in that process. We encourage you to talk to your child tonight about our practice drill and the importance of treating every drill seriously.
