#SCSCelebrates | Scenic Subaru partnered with AdoptAClassroom.org to surprise teachers at Central Middle School with a $14,500 donation and school supply kits during a back-to-school celebration. The donation was made as part of Subaru Loves Learning®, a national program championed by Subaru of America, Inc. that helps provide funding for teachers at high-needs schools across the country to purchase the school supplies and resources needed to help their students succeed. Scenic Subaru’s donation will benefit more than 625 students by providing teachers with $500 worth of funding each to purchase supplies for the school year on the AdoptAClassroom.org Marketplace. Scenic Subaru’s partnership with Central Middle School is part of their year-round commitment to the community including additional partnerships with Surry Animal Rescue, Novant Health Oncology Specialists – Mt Airy Division, and many more. #SCSCelebrates | The North Carolina Governor's School is a four-week summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. Learning focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and it does not involve credit, tests, or grades. Students are selected to attend through a competitive process after being nominated by their public school unit or non-public school. Two students from Surry County Schools were nominated, then applied for, auditioned, and were accepted into this prestigious program. Walker York was accepted into the NC Governor's School for Choral Music. Cassidy Mills was accepted to the NC Governor’s School for Theater. They both attended the program over the summer, and Surry County Schools was incredibly proud to recognize them at the September Board of Education meeting. Congratulations to these two students on this great accomplishment! 🎭🎼

#SCSCelebrates | Sixteen SCS attended the HOSA International Conference in Houston, Texas in June. At the conference, they attended general sessions, participated in educational workshops exploring various aspects of health careers, and competed in their respective competitions against students from all over the world. These students were recognized at the September Board of Education Meeting. #SCSUpdates | Surry County Schools would like to remind you that we will review the Home Language Surveys of newly enrolled and kindergarten students to see if language testing for Multilingual Learner services is needed. We have 30 days from the date of enrollment to conduct a parent interview, record review, complete a WIDA Screener test, and notify parents of the testing results & ML Services. Our initial Screener testing window for newly enrolled kindergarten and other new students (grades 1-12) is August 08, 2024 through September 19, 2024.

🎉 Celebrating the Last Day of School with our amazing SCS Transportation team! 🌭 Today, our dedicated bus drivers returned their buses for the summer and enjoyed a well-deserved Hot Dog Celebration at the Bus Garage. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to relax, enjoy lunch, and socialize before heading off for summer break.
