finalists for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) 2025 Burroughs Wellcome Fund NC Beginning Teacher of the Year Award, including Dobson Elementary School's own Sydney McKeaver Coe!
This prestigious recognition highlights her dedication and impact as an educator. One finalist will be honored as the 2025 NC Beginning Teacher of the Year after a comprehensive selection process by a panel of judges.
As part of this achievement, finalists will attend a professional development week at the Truist Leadership Institute in Greensboro, N.C., from March 24–28, 2025. The winner will be announced during a special ceremony on March 27, 2025, at the Elliott University Center auditorium at the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

#SCSUpdates | 2025-2026 School Calendar Feedback is Open Now!
The Surry County Board of Education has accepted multiple draft calendars for public comment for the 2025-2026 school year. Potential start dates include August 7, 2024, August 11, 2024, August 13, 2024, and August 25, 2024.
These calendars are available for public comment for the next 30 days, and those who wish to contribute feedback are encouraged to fill out the attached Google form or contact the Surry County Schools Administrative Offices at (336)386-8211.

#SCSUpdates | Calling elementary parents who would like to serve on our district-level Title I Parent Advisory Council for Parent & Family Engagement. We would love to have your voice! There will be 4 meetings occurring between December 2024 through November 2025. They will be held virtually and/or in-person, depending on what the Title I PAC chooses to do. Please share your interest by completing the interest survey form, which you can access via the QR code or link. Each elementary school should have a minimum of 2 PAC representatives. We will verify your child attends one of our elementary schools, and you cannot be an employee of Surry County Schools.

On November 20th, the nurses of Surry County Schools gathered for their monthly meeting, where they were graciously treated to lunch by Northern Regional Hospital. A heartfelt thank you goes to Rylee Giles and Kayla Edwards from Northern's Marketing and Community Relations Department for their generosity.
During the meeting, the nurses had the pleasure of meeting Olivia Basile, a Physician Assistant with Northern Family Medicine in Dobson. Olivia shared valuable information about the practice and the services it offers, and she expressed her readiness to assist whenever needed. We are grateful for her time and expertise.
We feel truly fortunate to have such strong community partners in Northern Regional Hospital and appreciate the support and collaboration that helps enhance the care we provide to our students and staff.
