On October 31st, Four Surry Early College High School Interact officers were pinned in a ceremony held by the Mount Airy Rotary Club at Cross Creek Country Club. The 2023-2024 Interact officers are President, Victoria Hernandez; Vice President, Jacqueline Trejo; Secretary, Yuridia Gallegos-Echavarrieta; and Treasurer, Alyssa Mitchem.
Interact is a high school service club that works with the Mount Airy Rotary to complete service projects in the community. This year, the school’s Interact Club has sponsored Purple Pinkie Day to raise money for polio vaccinations, led the campaign to wear red for Red Ribbon Week, and assisted in a haunted hallway to raise money to sponsor children for the Salvation Army Angel Tree.
Upcoming events for Interact members in November include participating in the Veteran's Luncheon at Surry Community College this Friday serving lunch to Veterans in honor of their service, and organizing and creating holiday care packages for the elderly in local nursing homes. Students will be collecting toiletry items for the care packages and creating holiday cards throughout the month of November, with a target goal of giving to 100 seniors. Rotary is an international organization of business and professional leaders united by a common motto: Service Above Self. Our Interact Club is one of the most active clubs in our district, we have a proud history of serving our local community through various projects and initiatives.
