Good evening, this is Paige Badgett, principal of North Surry High School. I am calling with updates. Last Friday, we had a fight at school that involved multiple students at the end of the day. The lockdown today was not in any way related to the fight on Friday. The lockdown today was a result of an anonymous tip being submitted through our tip line. The tip indicated there was a weapon on campus. Our admin team and SRO took swift action to place the school in lockdown. Multiple deputies and detectives responded to campus and launched an investigation immediately. No weapon was found on campus. Both incidents are ongoing investigations by the Surry County Sheriff’s Office. Charges and school disciplinary action are pending.
As the principal of NS High, I want you to know I take the safety of our students, faculty and staff seriously. I will not tolerate disruptive behavior, disrespectful actions nor students fighting on this campus. Please take time to discuss the seriousness of these events with your son or daughter. If he/she has additional information, please reach out to a trusted adult or submit information on our tip line.
Student safety is the highest priority for Surry County Schools and the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, and we are all working diligently every day to ensure the safety of children. We appreciate everyone’s efforts to work with us in that process. We encourage you to talk to your child tonight about our lockdown. Please call us if you have any questions or concerns. I hope you have a restful evening.
