finalists for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) 2025 Burroughs Wellcome Fund NC Beginning Teacher of the Year Award, including Dobson Elementary School's own Sydney McKeaver Coe! This prestigious recognition highlights her dedication and impact as an educator. One finalist will be honored as the 2025 NC Beginning Teacher of the Year after a comprehensive selection process by a panel of judges. As part of this achievement, finalists will attend a professional development week at the Truist Leadership Institute in Greensboro, N.C., from March 24–28, 2025. The winner will be announced during a special ceremony on March 27, 2025, at the Elliott University Center auditorium at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Mrs. Byrd is a Custodian at Westfield Elementary School, who has been with Surry County Schools for nearly two decades! The staff had a wonderful evening of fellowship as they visited Arigatos and the wonderful Festival of Lights. The staff appreciated and enjoyed their evening together.

Potential start dates include August 7, 2024, August 11, 2024, August 13, 2024, and August 25, 2024. These calendars are available for public comment for the next 30 days, and those who wish to contribute feedback are encouraged to fill out the attached Google form or contact the Surry County Schools Administrative Offices at (336)386-8211. Our hearts are growing with Christmas spirit after Grinch Day!

Our Mountain Park Elementary Spelling Bee was held today. We are very proud of all our students who participated in the school wide spelling bee. A special congratulations to Riley Kreger as our school Champion. She will go on to represent Mountain Park at the district spelling bee.

SCHS Chorus always brings Christmas joy to our hearts! Thank you for coming to sing to us this morning.

Hello Mountain Park! We have lots of fun activities planned for this week. On Monday, the Surry Central High School Chorus will be performing for our school. On Tuesday morning at 10:00, we will have our school spelling bee in the gym. On Wednesday, our PTO has a great day planned for us as Santa and the Polar Express will be here at Mountain Park. We appreciate all our PTO does for our school! On Wednesday, the Good News Club meets after school. Friday is the last day of the second quarter. On Friday, students will be receiving backpacks loaded with goodies provided by Mountain Park Baptist Church. We are so grateful for their support of our school. We dismiss at 1:00 on Friday for the break. We wish you all a happy, healthy and safe holiday. School resumes for students on Monday, January 6th. Thank you for making Mountain Park Elementary such a wonderful place to be!

#SCSUpdates | Calling elementary parents who would like to serve on our district-level Title I Parent Advisory Council for Parent & Family Engagement. We would love to have your voice! There will be 4 meetings occurring between December 2024 through November 2025. They will be held virtually and/or in-person, depending on what the Title I PAC chooses to do. Please share your interest by completing the interest survey form, which you can access via the QR code or link. Each elementary school should have a minimum of 2 PAC representatives. We will verify your child attends one of our elementary schools, and you cannot be an employee of Surry County Schools. Thank you for your help! - Llamar a los padres de primaria que deseen formar parte de nuestro Consejo Asesor de Padres de Título I para la Participación de Padres y Familias a nivel de distrito. ¡Nos encantaría contar con tu voz!
