Over the weekend one of our Dragons represented us, as well as Surry County Schools at Lees McRae! Our 5th grade teacher, Ms. Ramey, spoke to seniors about their upcoming and last year of college. What a great representation of our school and county!
Mrs. Hunter’s first graders practiced using their school supplies and learned how to Rally Coach this week. Mrs. York stopped by to read First Day Jitters to the class. They had a great first week of school!

Mrs. Marley’s 2nd grade, “Saving Fred” activity. Students needed to save Fred by getting him into a life preserver using only paper clips as tools.
The Surry County Health Dept will be doing school physicals, sports physicals, and immunizations on Friday, August 16th from 8:00-12:00 at the Health Dept.
Ms. Ramey’s 5th graders used the Scientific Method to test and see if cold water or room temperature water dissolved the color of skittles faster.

#SCSUpdates | Surry County Schools would like to remind you that we will review the Home Language Surveys of newly enrolled and kindergarten students to see if language testing for Multilingual Learner services is needed. We have 30 days from the date of enrollment to conduct a parent interview, record review, complete a WIDA Screener test, and notify parents of the testing results & ML Services.
Our initial Screener testing window for newly enrolled kindergarten and other new students (grades 1-12) is August 08, 2024 through September 19, 2024.

Today, our dedicated bus drivers returned their buses for the summer and enjoyed a well-deserved Hot Dog Celebration at the Bus Garage. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to relax, enjoy lunch, and socialize before heading off for summer break.
