Dare Essay Winners

The 5th grade students at Franklin Elementary School just studied the D.A.R.E. program, Drug Abuse Resistance Education.  D.A.R.E. is designed to equip elementary, middle, and high school children with knowledge about drug abuse, the consequences of abuse, and skills for resisting peer pressure to experiment with drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. The program was taught by Officer Latza.  At the end of the program, the students were required to write an essay about the D.A.R.E. program which consists of what the program stands for and what they have learned. Officer Latza listened to each essay and judged them on the following:

·  Introductory paragraph

·  Good content using facts and information from the D.A.R.E lessons

·  Closing paragraph

·  Grammar

·  Presentation: When reading the essay in class, students needed to speak clearly and make eye contact with the audience.

He scored them, and the highest scores were chosen as the winners.  The essay winners were: Wrenzo Freeman, Malakai Smith, and Braden Kane.
