**IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM SURRY COUNTY SCHOOLS**
EARLY DISMISSAL AND REMOTE LEARNING DAY - HURRICANE HELENE - Due to heavy rain and potential flooding, Surry County Schools will dismiss students at 2:00 p.m. today, Thursday, September 26, 2024. All after-school events and activities are canceled and there will be no after-school childcare this afternoon. Due to the hazardous weather outlook for tomorrow, which could impact student drivers, bus routes, and overall safety, Friday, September 27, will be a remote learning day for students and staff. Safety is the top priority for Surry County Schools, and we believe this decision to be in the best interest of our students, staff, and families. Thank you for your understanding, and please stay safe over the next few days during this severe weather event.

Good evening, Tiger families! This is Mrs. Hazelwood calling with Tiger News! On Monday, our school improvement team will meet. Monday night is PTO Skate Night at Starlite Skate Center in Mount Airy! Come between 6-8 and enjoy a fun night of skating! Homework passes will be given out and DES shirts and blankets will be available for purchase. On Wednesday, our 4th graders will travel to Raleigh. 4th graders need to arrive on campus no later than 6:15am for our trip. We ask that parents park in the upper lot so the charter buses can park next to the cafeteria. We will have breakfast for students before leaving. Encourage your child to wear comfortable shoes on this day. 4th graders will return on campus at approximately 7:30 pm. Thank you for making plans to pick up your child at this time. Friday is an exciting day-it is our first ROAR Celebration! Students need to wear sunscreen and bring a towel and another change of clothes and shoes. Students with less than 3 MIRS will be able to attend. We will have Drop Everything And Read on Friday. Encourage your child to bring a great book to enjoy. Finally, progress reports will go home on Friday. This is a great time to talk to your child about their goals for the remainder of the quarter.
We have set beginning of the year reading goals with your child. Please encourage your child to read each night. Students that reach their reading goals will get to attend on reading trip in December. We love for parents to join us for lunch! Please remember, only individuals on a student’s pick-up list are able to eat lunch with your child. Thank you for helping us keep all students safe. Have a fabulous week! Good night!
