Students gather and pose for a cheerful photo at the NC HOSA Northwest Regional Leadership Conference.

Surry County Schools is thrilled to announce the outstanding achievements of our students at the NC HOSA Northwest Regional Leadership Conference, held at West Wilkes High School on Saturday, November 16, 2024. A total of 409 students from the region attended the event.

An impressive 110 SCS students earned spots in the top 10 rankings during the competition:

  • 🥉 10 students received 3rd place bronze medals

  • 🥈 18 students received 2nd place silver medals

  • 🥇 19 students received 1st place gold medals

Adding to this success, three of the four newly elected Regional Officers (Jordin Beasley, President; Belinda Juarez, Secretary; and Ja'Aura Fonville, Treasurer) hail from Surry Early College, further highlighting the exceptional talent within our schools.

“This is a remarkable achievement for our students and a testament to the pathways we provide in Surry County Schools,” said Dr. Travis L. Reeves, Superintendent of Surry County Schools. “We are proud to offer opportunities that allow our students to explore careers in healthcare, develop leadership skills, and achieve excellence. Their success reflects their hard work and dedication, and we celebrate their accomplishments.”

The NC HOSA Regional Leadership Conference plays a crucial role in preparing students for their future careers in healthcare by helping them develop both their technical skills and leadership abilities. The purpose of this event is to provide a platform for students across the region to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and leadership abilities in various health-related fields. This conference served as an opportunity for students to engage in competitive events, participate in workshops, visit a health career expo, and interact with professionals and peers, all while promoting career readiness in the healthcare industry.

The conference serves as a qualifying event for students to advance to the State Leadership Conference (SLC) and, if successful there, to the HOSA International Leadership Conference (ILC). Congratulations to all the students who participated and excelled at this year’s conference! Surry County Schools wishes all students the best as they prepare for the next phase of their journey!
