Friday, October 25 was a special day at Gentry Middle School as the school dedicated the newly named Bobby Atkins Gymnasium in honor of a beloved former teacher and coach who dedicated over 30 years to Surry County Schools. The ceremony featured heartfelt remarks from Board Member Clark Goings, Bobby’s son Travis Atkins, and Superintendent Dr. Travis L. Reeves, all sharing stories of Bobby’s incredible legacy and the impact he had on the North District community.
In a fitting tribute, several of Bobby's grandsons had the opportunity to throw the first basketball in the newly named gym, marking the beginning of a new chapter for this facility. The Bobby Atkins Gymnasium will continue to inspire future generations, just as Coach Atkins did throughout his life.
We would like to thank all members of the Atkins family for their participation in this ceremony, as well as all those who made this event possible.
