Coe, Inman,  and Mauldin

Dobson, NC – On August 1, Laken Coe, Sarah Abbigayle Inman, and Meredith Mauldin were recognized by Surry County Schools, Surry-Yadkin Works, and Surry Community College for their successful completion of a Teacher Aide Apprenticeship through Surry-Yadkin Works. 

During the Apprenticeship Celebration, Coe, Inman, and Mauldin were presented with a Certificate of Apprenticeship Completion from the N.C. Community College System. Additionally, they were presented with their Apprenticeship Journeyworker Certificate, a nationally recognized credential issued by the U.S. Department of Labor. 

Laken Coe graduated from Surry Central High School in May 2023. She began a pre-apprenticeship in January 2023 at Mountain Park Elementary and was later hired as an apprentice by Surry County Schools in August 2023. As a requirement of the apprenticeship, Coe completed an Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation degree and graduated from Surry Community College in May 2024. She has been accepted to Lees-McRae College and will be attending in the fall of 2024.

Sarah Abbigayle Inman graduated from East Surry High School in June 2022. She was hired as an apprentice by Surry County Schools in August 2022 and was assigned to Rockford Elementary. As a requirement of the apprenticeship, Inman completed an Associate in Science in Teacher Preparation degree and graduated from Surry Community College in August 2024. She has been accepted to Lees-McRae College and will be attending in the fall of 2024.

Meredith Mauldin graduated from North Surry High School in June 2022. She was hired as an apprentice by Surry County Schools in August 2022 and was assigned to White Plains Elementary School. As a requirement of the apprenticeship, Mauldin completed an Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation degree and graduated from Surry Community College in May 2024. She has been accepted to North Carolina State University and will be attending in the fall of 2024.

“These three ladies are the first Teacher Aide apprenticeship completers for Surry County Schools. They have excelled in every aspect of the program, and we are extremely proud of them,” says Rachel Hiatt, Director of Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeship Initiatives, for Surry Community College. 

Surry-Yadkin Works is a pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship sponsor for Surry and Yadkin counties. By combining forces with Surry Community College, Surry-Yadkin Works is connecting workplaces to the classroom to prepare students for real-world careers.
