Surry County Schools is pleased to announce significant leadership transitions that will further enhance our commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities for our students. Mrs. Sharia Templeton will assume the Career Development Coordinator (CDC) role at Surry Central High School, and Dr. DeAnne Danley will step into the position of Principal at Franklin Elementary School.

Mrs. Sharia Templeton has served as the Principal of Franklin Elementary School with a deep commitment to the success of students and staff. In her new role as Career Development Coordinator at Surry Central High School, Mrs. Templeton will leverage her extensive experience to bolster career development initiatives and support students in achieving their post-secondary goals. She commented, “I am blessed to have worked in many capacities during my 24-year tenure with Surry County Schools, most recently completing my 16th year in Administration.  While I will miss my Franklin Elementary School family, I know they will continue to have a successful year using their passion, love, and skills to impact students positively.  I am excited about my new role as a Career Development Coach and look forward to embracing this challenge with enthusiasm.”

Dr. DeAnne Danley is transitioning from Assistant Superintendent to Principal at Franklin Elementary School. Her decision to return to an elementary principal position is a testament to her deep commitment to early childhood education and her belief in the power of nurturing young minds from the very beginning of their academic journeys. With her extensive expertise in early literacy, Dr. Danley will be in a position to profoundly impact our youngest learners, guiding them toward a strong foundation in literacy that will benefit them throughout their educational careers.

Dr. Danley expressed her enthusiasm for this new chapter in her own words: "I, along with the support from my family, decided it was time for me to transition into a different role in our great school system. I have been blessed to serve this community for 25 years as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, central office director, and assistant superintendent. Each of these experiences has helped me be the educator I am today. I am thankful to Dr. Travis Reeves and the Board of Education for supporting me in my decision. As I look forward to the 2024-2025 school year, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to become a Franklin Bulldog. Having the opportunity to return to the role of an elementary principal is exciting. I cannot wait to meet all of my new students and their families!"

Over the years, Dr. Danley has been an integral part of the district, leading with dedication, vision, and an unwavering commitment to the success of our students and staff. Her transition back to the role of an elementary principal is a return to her professional roots and a chance to discover her best while achieving a more balanced approach to her career and personal life.

Superintendent Dr. Travis L. Reeves expressed confidence in the new appointments, stating, “Mrs. Templeton and Dr. Danley have demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to our district. These transitions reflect our ongoing commitment to providing the best educational opportunities for our students and supporting our staff in their professional growth. I am confident they will continue to make a positive impact in their new roles.”
