Surry County Schools Pre-K Application Process

2025-2026

The application window opens on Monday, March 3, 2025!

Types of Applications that will be available:

NCPK

  • This application is for children who will be 4 years of age on or before 8/31/25.

  • This application is based primarily on income.

  • These applications are processed and rank-ordered through the NCPK Office of Early Learning, and eligibility/placement is based on the highest need. Families eligible for an NCPK spot must meet specific qualifications outlined by NCPK.

  • These spots are offered free of charge to those who are eligible.

  • NCPK spots are only offered at the school where the student resides. Space is limited. If the class at your local school is full, you will be placed on a waitlist. 

  • Applications can be picked up at the local elementary school or printed using this LINK to NCPK application.

  • Applications and all required documents must be returned to the school before the application can be processed.

Community Tuition Program

  • This application is available to families who may not meet the criteria for an NCPK application but are interested in our tuition/fee-for-service PK program.

  • Tuition is $560 per month. This included breakfast, lunch, and a snack daily. 

  • Students who are 3 or 4 years of age on or before 8/31/25 are eligible to apply. Space is limited. Priority is given to students who will be 4 on or before 8/31/25.

  • Applications and all required documents must be returned to the school before the application can be processed.

About SCS 5-Star Pre-Kindergarten Programs

Surry County Schools proudly offers 12, 5-Star rated Pre-Kindergarten programs across the district, with at least one classroom in every elementary school! Our staff is highly qualified through the state of North Carolina and the Division of Child Development and Early Education.

The NC Pre-K Program is designed to provide high-quality educational experiences to enhance school readiness for eligible four-year-old children. The NC Pre-K Program Requirements are built on the National Education Goals Panel’s premise that to be successful academically in school, children need to be prepared in all five of the developmental domains that are critical to children’s overall well-being and success in reading and math as they enter school:

  • Approaches to play and learning

  • Emotional and social development

  • Health and Physical Development

  • Language development and communication

  • Cognitive development
